We stayed a week at River Cottage and had a lovely time. The cottage is very comfortable with excellent amenities and is in a great location. It was a delight to be so close to the river and the various birds it attracts. I would highly recommend staying at River Cottage.

Shelia’s River Cottage, property is a lovely renovated farmhouse, in Skreen, Sligo. The property has been beautifully restored by Shelia’s husband Dermot and it is clear to see that love, care and exceptional attention to detail has made this home very special. We chose this property as it is pet friendly and we were delighted to find plenty of space both inside and outside for our 2 large dogs. Shelia is a wonderful host, not only kind and helpful but also very understanding when we managed to ‘lock’ ourselves out of the house on the first night! Shelia is an amazing host and River Cottage is a beautiful property in a gorgeous location!

In my month-long retreat in western Ireland’s countryside, this AirBnB was more than a stay—it was a serene haven. Close to the Wild Atlantic Way, the house offered a blend of modern comfort and rustic charm. The vista combined the distant Pacific Ocean with lush, stone-walled pastures, where a creek in the backyard provided a soothing, natural soundtrack.
Despite its proximity to the road, the home remained a peaceful sanctuary. Ballysadare village, with its quaint shops and O’Connor’s pub’s exceptional Guinness, was easily reachable by hitchhiking or bus. Clear nights revealed a stunning celestial display, unmarred by city lights.
This home wasn’t just accommodation; it was a journey into tranquility and a reminder of life’s simple pleasures, making it a perfect escape from urban chaos. A stay here promises to be a soul-enriching experience that endures in memory.
Note from Sheila: when I thanked this guest for the review, he said that he hoped I liked it as he had generated it using AI ( a first!) .  That may explain the reference to the Pacific ocean, rather than the Atlantic!!!  T

We really enjoyed our stay in Sheila’s place, it was a cosy and clean house with lots of space and the sound of the river outside was very relaxing. It is close to the main road and is easy to get to. A great location to stay when exploring the coast between Easkey or Enniscrone as far as Strandhill but Aughris Head and Dunmoran strand nearby are a must visit.

We had a fantastic stay in Sheila’s place both myself and my wife had a relaxing few days away and our dog enjoyed the space outside and the river at the back of the house. We loved the sound of the river as we sat on the deck relaxing. We will definitely come back Sheila’s place

“My partner and I have just spent an absolutely wonderful week on holiday in the west of Ireland, staying at this lovely cottage. It has everything you need, and I imagine it’d be great for a larger family too – there’s even a room downstairs for someone less able. The location is fab – the two beaches nearby were beautiful, uncrowded and clean, and you are also in short reach of the Ox mountains, we took some great photos up there when the sun was setting. We have such fond memories from our week there, we took the main bedroom upstairs and the huge bed was super comfy. Enjoyed having our breakfast listening to the stream in our back garden before heading off for our trip of the day. We’d definitely visit again, we were quite sad to leave on Monday and head back to work from home in our cramped Dublin apartment! Sheila and Dermot were lovely and made sure we were settled in and had everything we need. If you haven’t visited county Sligo yet – the scenery is stunning, you won’t regret it one bit!”

This house has great character.  The decor has been tastefully done and the house is very well situated. There is a beautiful river which flows at the back of the property which enhances the outdoor space when sitting on the patio. We enjoy outdoor sports and were able to cycle to the local pier at Aughris as well as kayaking there. We also bodyboarded at the local beach. The local pub and restaurant is within easy reach and was also very good. Sheila was able to provide all this information for us and able to clarify anything that we asked about. All in all, this is a lovely property and we really enjoyed our stay. I would definitely recommend it.
